Inspiration: Leadership Guru Simon Sinek Reminds Us That Together is Always Better
I don’t know about you but in the last few months I’ve had days when I needed some extra inspiration. My “go to” is often best-selling author Simon Sinek. He never disappoints. That certainly holds true in his “little book of inspiration”, Together is Better. It’s a heartwarming and wonderfully illustrated fable chocked full of leadership wisdom and simple lessons such as:
“Fight against something and we focus on the thing we hate. Fight for something and we focus on the thing we love.”
“Failure we can do alone. Success takes help.”
“We’d achieve more if we chased the dream instead of the competition.”
“Be the leader you wish you had.”
The story is about a boy who takes a stand against the king of the playground. It’s a metaphor, of course, that hits at the heart of organizations and people that have lost their way, abandoning the foundation of shared vision, trust and cooperation for self-interest, apathy and complicity. Sinek’s broader message is that we’re more likely to discover our purpose and overcome the hurdles along the way if we are open to traveling on the journey with others … that we trust.
To those for whom I have gifted this book (and there are many) I encourage you to re-read it … regularly, as I do. It’s message may be particularly meaningful given the chaotic climate of our world right now. And, for those who don’t already have it on your bookshelf, you’re missing out on your very own little book of inspiration.
