Celebrating Women’s History Month
It’s hard to believe March 2021 is already upon us, wow. One year ago we were just learning about Covid 19, quarantining and worrying about an uncertain future. And even through this tough year, countless women have made great strides. To celebrate Women’s History Month, we’d like to pay homage to four stand out leaders who have inspired change in our country, fought for freedom and equality, and are paving the way for future generations.
As we were researching and writing this blog, we couldn’t help but be inspired. We hope you feel the same and get the inspiration you need to lead forward and do great things each and every day.
Whitney Wolfe Herd
CEO of Bumble
Bumble, the online dating app started by Whitney Wolfe Herd broke norms in 2016 by allowing women to make the first move. She broke dating barriers by offering in-app purchases which now has made her one of the youngest billionaires at age 31. Two weeks ago, Bumble went public on Nasdaq. She took to the stock market and signed the paperwork with her baby on her hip; showing women everywhere that they can do it all. Bumble has expanded to add a networking feature through Bumble Bizz, where you can connect with like-minded professionals, collaborate and even apply for grants through their platform. We are looking forward to watching this CEO grow!
Rhonesha Byng
Founder and CEO of Her Agenda
Rhonesha Byng is a role model and source of knowledge for millennial women in the workplace. Her Agenda is an award-winning digital platform bridging the gap between ambition and achievement. She provides a community for those looking to establish themselves in their industry and coins the motto “No One Ever Slows Her Agenda”. She was part of the 2017 Forbes’ 30 under 30 and was named 50 Founders to Watch. Her efforts to achieve equality for women don’t go unnoticed and we, too, look forward to the day where women are given equal opportunity at the workplace.
Sara Blakely
Founder of Spanx
Sara Blakely is inspiring on so many levels. She was named the world’s youngest, self-made female billionaire in 2012 by dedicating herself to being a strong, fearless leader all the while making women across the globe feel more comfortable in their skin. She has since developed the Sara Blakely Foundation which allocates a portion of Spanx profits toward investing in women around the globe. They’ve sent women to college, funded entrepreneurial programs in girls’ schools, joined a dance flash mob to stop violence against women and worked with Oprah on her Leadership Academy for girls in South Africa.
Amanda Gorman
Poet
We couldn’t compile a list of inspirational women without adding Amanda Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history. The 22 year old has captivated the hearts of many Americans. She has published two books, (The Hill We Climb, Change Sings and The One for Whom Food Is Not Enough) contributed to the New York Times and was named the first National Youth Poet Laureate for the United States in 2017. Her work focuses on issues of oppression, feminism, race and marginalization. While she isn’t quite a CEO yet, we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw big things to come from her in the years ahead.
